As a further complement to the campsites that exist, we believe that this part of the municipality also needs to be strengthened, says Jacob Högfeldt (M), chairman of the municipal board.

According to the proposal for the first phase, the municipality will invest in the construction of land for about 130 places, a building with reception and catering, parking space, paving of the road to the campsite, clearing brush and arranging the area's bathing area.

But the municipality should not run the campsite.

Someone who knows that business should do that. We take the basic infrastructure cost, which you as an actor do not have in this case. It is also in line with what the municipality is increasingly working on: running good partnerships," says Jacob Högfeldt.

Opposition party criticises

However, the Liberals in Strängnäs, who belong to the oppostion, are critical of the proposal.

"We do not support this and we think it is a wrong priority. We have been struggling financially for a long time right now and we see that you should instead invest in the core businesses first. In this proposal, there is a lot of ifs or maybes, and it feels like the municipality has made a little too optimistic calculations, says Sofia Könberg, group leader for the Liberals in Strängnäs.

New district

The campsite will comprise a total of about 300 pitches and mobile homes and is planned to be completed in 2025. It is part of a larger investment in the district "Norra staden" that is planned to emerge in the area.

The decision on whether or not to implement the proposal is expected to be made by the municipal executive board on 31 May.
