The man allegedly made six smuggling trips from Spain to Kronoberg County between August 2020 and January 2021. In total, just over 1.3 tonnes of cannabis have been brought into the country.
According to the indictment, the man then used a warehouse where the drugs were repackaged for further sale. Now he is convicted of extremely aggravated drug smuggling and extremely serious drug offences.
Major investigation
An accomplice, a man in his 50s living in Jönköping County, is also sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated drug smuggling.
The verdict is part of a larger investigation, and is seen by the prosecutor as a result of a larger effort against serious organized crime that started in autumn 2020.
"There are more people wanted in this investigation. Also wanted internationally, police spokesman Robert Loeffel told SVT earlier.
