In a ceremony held at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Doña Letizia highlighted the "enormous effort" behind the organization. As an anecdote, the member of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology has tripped when going on stage, falling in front of the Queen. They quickly helped him to get up and Doña Letizia gave him a gesture of affection when he checked that he was well. Another of the winners was the Ukrainian Red Cross, with whose representatives Doña Letizia has been very affectionate. In fact, the Queen has dared with the Ukrainian at the beginning of her speech. Looking at them, he uttered a phrase and then said: "Welcome to Spain, which is what that means."

During the event, medals were awarded to other NGOs that share the values of the association. Of these, the Queen has affirmed that "they reflect the excellence of those who are guided by responsibility, commitment and the desire for a more just and balanced society".

The Queen, who every year presides over a table of cuestación on the day of the Banderita, recalled that "anyone in a situation of vulnerability has in the Red Cross a response, a friendly voice and an outstretched hand".
