The participation at 14:00 p.m. in the municipal and regional elections of this Sunday stands at 36.65%, 1.55 points above the 35.10% that was reached at this same time in the same elections of 2019.

At this time, the participation already exceeds 40% and grows significantly in the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragon or Cantabria, communities that can be decisive for the aspirations of PSOE and PP on this day. Participation weighs down compared to 2019, for the moment, Catalonia and the Basque Country, where regional elections are not held next to the municipal ones.

At the end of the day, participation in 2019 was 65.2% nationally, in line with 64.9% in 2015 and 66.2% in 2011.

All communities have reported their first participation data at 14.00, except the Community of Madrid, which did so at 13:00. At that time, 29.17% of those called to the polls had participated in the region, 2.58% more than in 2021, when they were held on a working day -Tuesday-, and 4.59% more than in 2019. The participation has risen especially in the municipality of Madrid and in the eastern part of the Community, while it has remained stable in the southern belt and has fallen slightly in the north -Alcobendas, San Sebastián de los Reyes- and the west -Las Rozas, Majadahonda-.

All national political leaders have called for participation by going to their polling stations during a day that is passing without incident, but with an eye on the sky. The rain, with several autonomous communities on yellow alert for rainfall, has emerged this Sunday in the protagonist of a day that contrasts with that of four years ago, when it was voted with clear skies and temperatures above 30 degrees in many places.

SANCHEZ, STARTLED

"It is very important to go to vote and that we do it positively, forgetting this tension that tries to install a minority," said Pedro Sánchez after getting up early to vote after 9 in the morning at the College of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Madrid.

There he has starred in one of the shocks of the day, when a citizen has interrupted him shouting while attending the media: "Let Txapote vote for you!". "Ya, ya, ya, very good. This is the pity. Unfortunately on an election day we have the intolerant, the tension, the noise and the insult, "reacted the President of the Government.

THE PP PREPARES THE BALCONY

Popular Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has gone to vote in Madrid for the first time since assuming the leadership of the opposition. He has done so accompanied by the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, and at the Ramiro de Maeztu school, where Sánchez studied.

Feijóo has appealed to vote "massively" because "the clearer, more decisive and forceful" the result, "the polls will be imposed on any type of subsequent consideration." "It is evident," he said, that today "the future" of Spain is decided.

The expectations are good in the Popular Party, which has already installed the traditional balcony in its headquarters on Genoa Street, next to a large canvas with the image of Feijóo, Ayuso and Almeida.

ABASCAL: "FREE AND FAIR VOTES"

At the Pinar del Rey school in Madrid, Vox president Santiago Abascal also called for a "massive" turnout to fill the ballot boxes with "free and clean votes." His party, which obtained less than 3% in the municipal elections of 2019, can aspire to grow and condition many more governments than four years ago.

WE CAN, A LOT AT STAKE

"There is a lot at stake," said Podemos leader Ione Belarra, who accompanied Madrid mayoral candidate Roberto Sotomayor to vote. Irene Montero voted in the morning in Galapagar with Pablo Iglesias, before accompanying regional candidate Alejandra Jacinto. Both in Madrid and in the Valencian Community, the purples fight to exceed 5% and maintain a representation that can be key to the future of the party and its negotiating strength with Yolanda Díaz in the face of the 'Sumar' platform that will compete in the generals.
