Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Turkish voters to go to the polls without complacency, while his presidential rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said the voting process was taking place in difficult conditions.

Erdogan urged voters not to be complacent and go to the polling stations to participate in voting in the second round of the presidential election.

"Turkey has confirmed the extent of its commitment to democracy," he said during casting his vote at a polling station in Istanbul, adding that the people will choose their president, expecting that the counting process will be fast.

The Turkish president participated in the elections at the "Safat Chibi" school in the Uskudar district on the Asian side of Istanbul, where he was received by a number of citizens before moving to cast his vote.

Attempted distortion

Republican People's Alliance (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, a candidate for the People's Alliance, said the elections were taking place in difficult conditions.

During casting his vote at a polling station in the capital, Ankara, he called on all citizens to go to the polls and defend their votes.

"We have been subjected to an attempt to smear it, and I appeal to citizens to go to the funds for the real democracy we want," he said.

Polling stations across Turkey opened on Sunday morning to vote in the second round of the presidential election that will decide the country's next president.

Voting will continue until five o'clock in the evening Turkey time (second GMT) in all Turkish states and at border crossings and airports.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a candidate for the People's Alliance, and Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu are competing in this second round.

In the first round, Erdogan received 49.51% of the vote, while his rival Kılıçdaroğlu received 44.88, and candidate Sinan Ogan received 5.17%, according to the High Election Commission.
