It is difficult to build roads on muddy old seabeds as the roads must not weigh too much while being able to cope with heavy traffic. The southern entrance into Örnsköldsvik, the stretch past Veckefjärden, has previously been built up with the help of leca balls to keep the bay down.

Now that measure has been worn out and the Swedish Transport Administration will now find out to what extent the permanent solution will be.

Critical stretch

Project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration Håkan Boström explains that they will do test pilings, test drilling and installation of measuring equipment to see if the planned method will work on site.

– It is important that what we do is good as this is a critical stretch both for our road users in the immediate area and the business community, says the Swedish Transport Administration Håkan Boström.

The improvement work is planned to be carried out in 2027-2028.
