• Morocco relations returns to its "harder" position with respect to Ceuta and Melilla and frustrates a passage of goods through the customs of Tarajal

One of the commitments reached by Pedro Sánchez and Mohamed VI in April 2022 was the opening of a commercial customs in Ceuta for the first time in history. This gesture was added to the reopening of the customs that already existed in Melilla, and that had been closed unilaterally for four years by the Alahui kingdom. This Friday, May 26, the first truck with Moroccan product has crossed the customs of Ceuta in a historic import.

Since last January, pilot tests have been carried out in the customs of Ceuta and Melilla with Morocco. In January, a truck with coils left for Morocco from Ceuta and the following month another with oil did the same. Yesterday the third commercial step towards the kingdom of Mohamed VI took place, but until today the arrival of material from Morocco has not taken place. It is a truck with the company Azulejos y Baños Susi S.L. that has imported from Morocco 15 tons of aggregates for civil construction that had been waiting since Thursday at the border.

The import has been made 48 hours before the municipal and regional elections, although it does not mean the beginning of a total opening of customs, because from Foreign Affairs it has always been explained that there is a roadmap with deadlines and that both kingdoms are complying with them. The deadlines are not public but this newspaper has confirmed that the import culminates the third phase of expedition.
