The activities are led by the association Mer dans för folket, which was started by choreographer and dancer Jannine Rivel.

"We are happy, grateful and proud of this. It is cultural workers who have been working for this issue for a decade, says Jannine Rivel.

Now it will be up to the association to find various independent dance and circus groups that want to move in in the autumn and start producing culture, often in collaboration with the residents.

The municipality contributes financially

Eskilstuna municipality supports the association with SEK 150,000 in project support for the first year. After that, the association will receive a certain rent discount.

The locomotive has so far been used for concerts, events and parties. There will be opportunities for this in the future as well, according to Marie Svensson (S), chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee in Eskilstuna.

"No one will have to move out of here. The locomotive has been underutilized. Now we fill it with activities even during the day," she says.
