Emmanuel Macron will pay tribute Thursday in Roubaix to the three policemen killed

Emmanuel Macron will travel Thursday to Roubaix (North) to pay tribute to the three young police officers killed in a collision Sunday with a vehicle whose driver was heavily drunk and drugged, announced Wednesday the Elysee. "This accident took place during a rescue operation for victims, which illustrates the heart of their mission. An everyday mission where the police intervene to protect the French," explained the presidency.

Emmanuel Macron, who was initially expected in the Var on Thursday, will meet the families and colleagues of the three victims for a tribute at the national police academy in Roubaix.

An investigation has been opened for manslaughter and involuntary injury

According to the first elements of the investigation, the police, two 25-year-old men and a 24-year-old woman were driving with a rotating light on the RD 700, at the height of Villeneuve-d'Asq, when they were hit around 7:00 am in a head-on collision by a vehicle driving in the opposite direction. Its 24-year-old driver also died instantly.

Two people were seriously injured, including a 16-year-old girl whom the three police officers were transporting to the forensic unit in Lille as part of an investigation into an assault in the night. An investigation was opened for manslaughter and bodily harm.
