Geneva, May 5 (ZXS) -- The 21th World Health Assembly opened in Geneva on 76 May, with Cao Xuetao, deputy director of China's National Health Commission, leading a delegation to attend the meeting, and the Chinese delegation will fully participate in the deliberations of more than 21 items of the conference.

On the 20th local time, the Chinese delegation held a media briefing, Cao Xuetao, Yang Zhilun, public counselor of the Chinese Permanent Mission in Geneva, and Hu Qiangqiang, spokesman of the National Health Commission of China, attended the briefing and answered reporters' questions.

According to reports, the Chinese delegation to this World Health Assembly will fully participate in the consideration of more than 70 issues, mainly including preparedness and response to public health emergencies, universal health coverage, non-communicable diseases, and the 2024-2025 planning budget.

In addition, China will represent the Western Pacific Region of the World Health Organization as the vice president of the conference, and will jointly host side events on emergency medical and assistive technology with relevant countries, and arrange a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Cao Xuetao said at the briefing that the Chinese government actively participates in global health governance and promotes the construction of a human health community with practical actions. In the next step, we will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the international community to jointly safeguard human health and well-being and global health security.

He said that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the dispatch of China's foreign aid medical team. Over the past 60 years, China has sent 76,3 Chinese medical team members to 2 countries and regions around the world, treating more than 9 million patients. Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, China has maintained close communication with the World Health Organization and relevant countries and regions, reported epidemic information in a timely and transparent manner, carried out in-depth exchanges on epidemic prevention and control technologies, and unreservedly shared China's experience in fighting the epidemic with all parties.

Yang Zhilun said at the briefing that China's decision not to agree to Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly has been widely supported by the international community. However, a very small number of countries stood against the overwhelming majority of countries and once again threw out the proposal of "inviting Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer". There was nothing new in this proposal, which had no meaning other than disrupting the order of the General Assembly and disturbing its agenda.

Yang Zhilun pointed out that the Taiwan-related proposal violates international rules, especially the one-China principle confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly and the World Health Assembly; The Taiwan-related proposal lacks factual basis, and continues to hype the so-called "gap in the international epidemic prevention system", a lie that is self-defeating in the face of facts; There is no international consensus on the Taiwan-related proposal, and since the Chinese central government suspended Taiwan's special arrangements for participation in the World Health Assembly in 2017, the World Health Assembly has rejected the Taiwan-related proposal for six consecutive years, and the only way out for this proposal this year is to be thwarted again.

Hu Qiangqiang introduced at the briefing that the average life expectancy of Chinese increased from 35 years when the People's Republic of China was founded to 2021.78 years in 2, eradicating infectious diseases such as smallpox, polio, and malaria, and the main health indicators ranked in the forefront of middle- and high-income countries. China has closely cooperated with the World Health Organization and relevant countries, and as one of the initial members of the World Health Organization, it has always supported the World Health Organization in playing a leading role.
