The polling stations have now closed and in the first exit polls the party received between 36 and 40 percent of the votes.

Alexis Tsipras' left-wing alternative Syriza looks set to get between 25 and 29 percent.

Those numbers suggest that the country is going to a second round of elections, when a party or alliance must reach 50 percent to win. None of the three main parties have said they are willing to cooperate, it is likely that there will be a second round of elections in early July.
