Each one carries his cross, but no one like Eva Martín (Girona, 1974) is capable of embodying it. Immersed in her role as Cruz Ezquerdo, Marchioness of Luján, the actress lives a thrilling moment thanks to the success of La Promesa (TVE). Every day since last January she puts herself in the shoes of this villain willing to ruin the life and plans of Jana (Ana Garcés). His nemesis is a kind of female Hamlet who comes to his estate to avenge the death of his mother. What he doesn't know, is that she is more cunning.

Known for films such as Lemon bread with poppy seeds (2021) or Pain and Glory (2019) and series such as The Commissioner or Plastic Sea, Eva Martín describes to LOC the arduous path she has had to follow to open a gap in the profession she is passionate about and dominates. From putting herself in the shoes of a philosophy professor who charged 500 euros in Merlí: sapere aude, she has gone on to rise in the heels of a lady of the early twentieth century: ambitious, cruel and willing to the greatest baseness to maintain her high status.

She does it with great enthusiasm, with the help of the producer Bambú and surrounded by a cast of actors such as María Castro, Arturo Sancho or Joaquín Climent. To whom he considers "a luxury of companions".

What do you think is the secret to the success of La Promesa? It is always difficult to know what the recipe for success in audiovisual products is. What I think is that we are making a series based on a time as beautiful as the beginning of the century and that has many diverse plots and characters that hook the audience. People are always wanting more because so many things happen. What attracted you to the Marchioness when you were offered the role? Playing a villain in a daily series is a gift. It is a character bonbon that makes you explore many corners that you do not usually explore and leaves a lot of room for fantasy. It allows you to take everything further and is a lot of fun. The public hates me, so mission accomplished. What makes Cruz special beyond evil? Cruz has many faces, never better said. It changes depending on whether it relates to the marquis, his son or the service. He is a very special, controlling and ambitious person. With very particular ethical parameters that make him put the world by montera to achieve what he proposes. He has clear priorities: to maintain the heritage and use all kinds of resources and misdeeds to achieve it. As they are revealed we will discover new things.Do you identify with any part of it? It's complicated, but I have to defend what the character does 100% and leave room for imagination. I have to put myself on paper and think, "What would the world be like as seen by someone of such extreme character?" You have to put aside the values that one has to assume those of the character, which in this case are very different from mine. What we do share is the value of family, a part of his sense of humor and that I am a perfectionist. Obviously without reaching those limits. Because Cruz is a lot of cross. In The Promise, women rule. No doubt. They are strong women in general and the plot leans on them. Starting with Jana, our heroine who seeks revenge. There are very powerful female characters: working women, idle, good, bad, young, old... This abounds little, because in most fictions in the world the female roles are only to support the masculine. How is a day for a daily series actress? The daily series take a lot of audiovisual work and the pace of filming is very fast. For the actors it means in addition to the hours of shooting, many of study and being glued to the script all day to broadcast a daily chapter. If the series is vintage, you have to arrive much earlier for the hairdressing, costume and makeup process. At 8 o'clock in the morning we are already shooting the first sequence. Normally we are shooting in the schedule of the broadcastEva Martín in the photocall of "Lemon bread with poppy seeds"GTRESalways knew you wanted to be an actress? Not that I had a clear certainty since I was a child, but there was that thing of acting, singing and dancing inside me. I did other things, like playing basketball and going to the music conservatory. I didn't join the theater group until I got to college. I studied English Philology at the University of Valladolid and had my first job in a professional company. Is that when it started to take off? I went in parts. Then I went to England, I did a lot of laps and it didn't occur to me until much later that this could be a profession. I spent years dedicating myself to other things in England, Alicante .... Until I was 30 I didn't give him a chance and I re-trained, to get on stage after many years. The swing I took was very good because it was something difficult, but I loved it, it was inside me. I always say that things have to be tried and I encourage people to do it. It doesn't matter if later, you have to try... With advantages and disadvantages. It's true that when you try older you know you can make a living in other ways and you have other resources because you've worked elsewhere. At 30 you get rid of some fears you had at 20, but others arise. I knew I had to see that it wasn't a fantasy of my head and see how far I could go. I was having good results and I saw that I could dedicate myself to this. Because it is true that it is a very difficult profession, with a lot of unemployment and those who work are privileged. It is a path that is built little by little. How was your landing in the audiovisual world? I came to Madrid and in the meantime I was teaching English for companies and individuals. I did a little publicity, to try to get in front of a camera and I did castings. Little by little I was given opportunities to audition for fiction. I started thanks to Carmen Utrilla to make the first series, like El Comisario. Above all, it was the TV that opened the doors for me and recently I have also been able to make films thanks to Lemon bread with poppy seeds. There are usually not many main characters of women over 40 years old. For me it was a gift, really. Also to be able to work with Almodóvar, even if it was with a small role. He studied music, plays several instruments and has given bossa nova and blues concerts. Yes, I'm looking forward to putting on some world music. I sing Brazilian music, bossa nova, but I also like all root music and musicality languages. Within the repertoires that I usually play I like to sing in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian... Play around with it a little bit. I like folklore, music that has the strength of the earth. What do you spend your free time doing? My hobbies have to do with music and culture in general. I am also very interested in everything that has to do with the human being and I really like being in nature. I need the silence of nature, walk through the forest, listen to the birds and hear the waves of the sea. And to be with my friends and family, of course, and to celebrate as well. I love celebrating everything. Well, let's celebrate success now. Do you notice that you are recognized more on the street these months? It always happens when you're on TV every day, because you're in people's houses. They recognize you in line at the supermarket, in a restaurant or taking a walk. I thought that being a period series, with the great work they do in hairdressing, makeup and costumes it would be more difficult to recognize us. But no, they do realize it. It's great because people are very caring and it makes me very happy.
