Beijing, 5 May (ZXS) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin announced at a regular news conference on 19 May that at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Prime Minister Mishustin will pay an official visit to China from 19 to 5 May.

"We welcome Prime Minister Mishustin's visit to China. During the visit, the two sides will have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, practical cooperation and issues of common concern. In addition to Beijing, Prime Minister Mishustin will also visit Shanghai. Wang Wenbin said when introducing Mishustin's arrangements for this visit.

He said that as the largest neighbors and major emerging market countries, China and Russia have strong resilience, sufficient potential and large space for cooperation.

"In March this year, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Russia, and the two heads of state reached important consensus on the development of bilateral relations in the next stage and cooperation in various fields. We look forward to Premier Mishustin's visit to China to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, deepen people-to-people and local exchanges, and inject strong momentum into world economic recovery. Wang Wenbin said.

A reporter at the meeting said in a question that there are reports that the Group of Seven (G7) will discuss new sanctions against Russia this weekend. The reporter asked whether the timing of Mishustin's visit to China was "intentional" and whether China hopes to balance the relevant actions of the G7 by strengthening commercial ties with Russia.

"China has always opposed unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the Security Council." Wang Wenbin said: China has always carried out normal economic and trade cooperation with other countries including Russia on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. Cooperation between China and Russia is neither directed at nor interfered with or coerced by third parties.

Another reporter asked what comments China has on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's attendance at the G7 summit this weekend.

"We hope that relevant international cooperation will uphold the principle of openness and inclusiveness and play a constructive role in promoting regional and world peace, stability and development, rather than provoking division and confrontation." Wang Wenbin said.

Wang Wenbin also confirmed at the meeting that at the invitation of the EU side, Ambassador Li Hui, special representative of the Chinese government for Eurasian affairs, will visit the EU headquarters. "China is willing to continue to promote peace and talks, and make China's contribution to promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis." He said. (End)
