Sudanese army fighter jets bombed on Friday morning positions of the Rapid Support Forces in the capital, Khartoum, while the Commander-in-Chief of the army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, decided to appoint General Shams al-Din Kabbashi as his deputy, relieve Mohamed Hamdan Daglo "Hemedti" from his position as vice president of the Sovereignty Council and choose a property owner to succeed him.

The Sudanese army said in a statement that its forces clashed with the rebel Rapid Support Forces in the Nile Street area in central Khartoum and seized weapons and cars.

Army warplanes bombed RSF positions in Shambat neighbourhood, as well as other positions north of Khartoum.

Al Jazeera correspondent monitored the entry of Sudanese army military vehicles into the capital, Khartoum.

A military source in the Sudanese army said the military vehicles were coming from the artillery command in the northern city of Atbara.

Our correspondent also monitored clashes south of Khartoum between the army and the Rapid Support Forces with heavy weapons near the central reserve camp of the police in the area of Al-Shaqilab, and other clashes took place in the areas of Al-Darushab and Al-Kadro, north of the city of Bahri.

On the other hand, a statement from the Rapid Support Forces accused what it called "coup forces and remnants" of continuing indiscriminate attacks with air and artillery on civilians, burning shops, markets and farms in the eastern Nile, in addition to looting a number of houses.

Decree and Resolution

In a related context, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, army commander and chairman of the Sovereignty Council, issued a constitutional decree dismissing his opponent, Rapid Support Forces commander Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti), from his post as deputy chairman of the council, about a month after clashes broke out between the army and the Rapid Support Forces led by Hemedti.

In a brief statement, the Sovereign Council announced that Dagalo had been "relieved" of his position as deputy chairman of the Sovereign Council by constitutional decree.

He also issued another constitutional decree appointing Malik Agar, the commander of one of the wings of the Sudan Liberation Movement (north), as vice-chairman of the Sovereignty Council, although he was a member of the Sovereignty Council.

In his capacity as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, al-Burhan issued a decree appointing Lieutenant General Shams al-Din Kabbashi as his deputy.

Clashes have been ongoing in Sudan between the army forces and the Rapid Support Forces since April 15, and have so far killed about a thousand people, and led to the displacement and asylum of about one million Sudanese.

In Jeddah, indirect talks between the two sides are continuing with US-Saudi mediation with a view to reaching an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.
