• Events The dead twins in Oviedo left to go to school but left their backpacks on the landing before rushing out of a window

The National Police is investigating whether one of the two 12-year-old twins who committed suicide yesterday by throwing themselves into the void from a sixth floor in Oviedo convinced the other to do so.

The investigations suggest that he could have incited his sister to end her life given the material that the agents intervened in the house in which the girls lived with their parents and with their 10-year-old brother. All of them are Russian and have been in Spain for two years.

As this newspaper has learned, among the personal effects of one of the minors the investigators found drawings of hangings made by herself. The Homicide Group of the Oviedo Police Station is focused on clarifying the circumstances in which the double suicide occurred and what was the reason why both sisters jumped into the courtyard.

The police have seized numerous material, confirm sources of the investigation, which one of the sisters kept in her bedroom. In different folders and in several drawers, they found drawings of suicide scenes made by one of the minors.

In addition, they seized the electronic devices of both to submit them to an in-depth analysis. The researchers' magnifying glass is also directed at the school where the twins studied, their environment and social networks.

At this very incipient moment of the investigation, all hypotheses about the cause of suicides are open. The shadow of a possible case of bullying is on the table, so investigators will begin a round of interrogations to teachers, classmates and schoolmates and friends of the deceased sisters to determine if they suffered any type of harassment. They will also ask the Ministry of Education of Asturias.

As for social networks, they will focus on the latest connections and interactions with other users. The event was recorded minutes after nine o'clock yesterday morning in a building at number 47 Facetos Street, in the Oviedo neighborhood of La Ería.

The father of the children had left earlier to take his other son to school. The mother was not at home either. The two girls left the house but instead of going down to the street they went up two floors, to the sixth.

Once there, they left their backpacks next to the stair window and threw themselves into the void. When his father returned, he was in shock and had to be treated immediately by the health services.

The agents located the mother of the minors, who suffered an anxiety crisis when they informed her of the suicide of her two older daughters. Both were taken to hospital.

In a first photograph of the event, the investigators ruled out the intervention of third parties in the deaths of the minors and were inclined that they had taken their own lives.

The mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli, traveled to the scene accompanied by the Councilor for Security, José Ramón Prado, and announced two days of mourning in the city.

The candidates of the PP, PSOE, Citizens and Call for Oviedo to the Mayor of the city, Alfredo Canteli, Carlos Fernández Llaneza Luis Pacho and Gaspar Llamazares, respectively, canceled all their campaign events scheduled for yesterday, on the occasion of the death of the little ones. The president of the Principality of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, also spoke about this event: "We are dismayed," he settled.

This tragedy occurs three months after a similar event occurred in the municipality of Sallent (Barcelona), where on February 21 two twins, also 12 years old, threw themselves into the void from the balcony of their house on the third floor. One of the girls died and the other was seriously injured.

At that time, the Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation to determine whether or not the minors suffered bullying after the police reports prepared by the Mossos d'Esquadra confirming that the preadolescents were victims of bullying.

The events were recorded on February 21, when the twins returned home from the Llobregat Public Institute in Sallent, where they were harassed for speaking "with an Argentine accent." They left a couple of handwritten letters for their parents and jumped off the balcony. One of them died instantly and the other suffered very serious injuries and fractures from which she has already recovered.
