"Yes, indeed, demography is where we have not yet succeeded. It really is. And for well-known and understandable reasons, we are now in a very difficult situation in terms of demography," Peskov said.

According to him, there is "no panacea, a magic pill" in this matter. At the same time, there are insurmountable problems here - demographic pits that haunt Russia in history.

"This is a demographic hole associated with the Great Patriotic War and a demographic hole associated with the 90s, when the country collapsed and the birth rate fell. And that fall was provoked by the ongoing pit from the war. Now we are in the decade when these pits have joined and this is our historical tail that haunts us," he said.

According to him, there is a certain inertia in these processes, while there are also very effective working measures to support the birth rate, in particular, maternity capital. But new measures are also needed.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced ongoing discussions with the Cabinet of Ministers on measures to support families and the birth rate.
