"I hasten to share with you the good news: 14-year-old Veronika Vlasova has returned to Ukraine! Another family has been reunited," she said.

The girl arrived in Russia in March 2022 with her aunt, but for a number of reasons she ended up in a social rehabilitation center.

"In addition, I got into an unpleasant story, because of which there were various kinds of legal restrictions that require time to resolve," the ombudsman explained.

In April, an employee of the Office of the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Lipetsk region met with the girl, in early May he contacted the girl's mother and they began to agree on the details of Veronica's return home.

"My grandmother was accompanied by employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Then our adviser accompanied the grandmother and granddaughter to the Russian-Latvian border, where, after the crossing, they were met by representatives of the Ukrainian side, with whom we were constantly in touch," Lvova-Belova said.

Ukrainian citizen Nina Vlasova previously appealed to the UN with a request to help her return her daughter, who left with her aunt from the hostilities in March 2022 to Russia.

In March, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that the Russian side was ready to return the children taken out of Ukraine when there were safe conditions in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, several hundred orphans, as well as minors from the DPR and LPR left without parental care, have received shelter and support in Russian foster families.
