• F1 Imola Formula 1 Grand Prix suspended due to Cyclone Minerva

Floods caused by torrential rains in northern Italy have already left at least thirteen dead, dozens missing and 13,000 displaced. There are 24 municipalities flooded and all the rivers in the region have overflowed. The rain of six months has fallen in 36 hours.

Many residents were blocked and forced to take refuge on the roofs of their houses. Faenza, a part of Cesena and Forlì and many other large inhabited centers were left under water. In some areas, the water rose in a few minutes, even reaching the first floors of the houses. Some districts of Bologna have been submerged and an emergency has also been declared in Rimini.

In addition, according to Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci, 50,000 people were left without electricity. "Nothing will be like before, because this process of tropicalization that is rising from Africa now also affects Italy," adds Musumeci.

The rains forced to cancel yesterday the Grand Prix of Formula 1 scheduled this weekend.

Colonel Paolo Capizzi, of the Air Force Meteorological Service, says that the repetition of extreme weather events "may be a consequence of ongoing climate change."

For her part, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced the government's maximum willingness to help the affected areas. They will do so, according to the country's interior minister, probably through a decree law and a suspension of tax obligations.

During this night the situation has not improved either. According to 'Corriere della sera', there have been new floods in the region of Emilia Romagna, especially in the municipalities of Russi, Godo, San Pancrazio and Villanova de Ravenna.
