María Berta Rodríguez did not have her time that day despite her son leaving her for dead after the 77-year-old woman vanished in the kitchen of her home in A Pobra, in Coruña.
Not just the doctor who attended her at home – "Oops! It seems to me that this is going to end" - if not her son found that "she was dead, nothing worked for her" which led them to think that Berta's time had come, operated on her heart, diabetic and with the typical complications of age.
That day he was having breakfast "and he started sweating, turning white and he got like dizzy. We thought it was a drop in sugar, but as it was getting worse, we pressed the button he has for the Red Cross, the telecare service," his son Kiko García told L aVoz de Galicia a few days ago.
The woman still did not react to the arrival of the medical staff and it was when the doctor said that Berta's life was about to end. "This is going to end," he said as his blood pressure and vital signs were taken. "And there was nothing," his son recalled.
"She was very cold, she turned an ashy white color, with transparent lips, and then I understood that it was true, that now she was leaving," explains Kiko.
The health personnel certified his death at home and offered the son to transfer his mother to the hospital, which he rejected and chose to notify the funeral home.
When he moved the body of the old woman to his room, from the floor of the kitchen where he had suffered dizziness, he found that his mother "was very very cold, she was dead, nothing worked for her. I have it very clear, "says La Voz de Galicia.
"All cowed"
But there, in her bedroom bed, Berta reestablished herself and resurrected, according to those present who had left her for dead. "It started to move and we were all cowed, we didn't believe it. At first, he didn't do anything, but little by little he started breathing and reacting, and on the way to the hospital he started talking and saying his name." At the hospital, Berta was diagnosed with syncope. The next day she was discharged after spending a night under observation.
Kiko now puts humor to the death and resurrection of his mother and tells how he had to call his brother again to tell him not to go home anymore, that "mom is alive!", and he believed it was a white lie so that he did not run since there was nothing else to do.
He also asks her about that light they say, those who have "resurrected" like Berta, which is at the end of the tunnel to tell what she saw in the afterlife and did not like to quickly return to be among the living.
Jokes aside, now, Kiko admits that for him "it was a very hard time" to see her lying dead on the kitchen floor and hopes it doesn't happen again.
