Kipngetich was in the lead from start to finish. At five kilometers, he was part of a group of eight runners, mostly Kenyans, who had gained a clear lead.

The pace was high, so the lead group gradually became smaller when some did not quite keep up. At 15 kilometers, Edmond Kipngetich was in sole lead, just ahead of compatriot Bravin Kiprop.

Kibet third

One who had already released was the pre-favourite Alex Kibet, also from Kenya.

At the end of the race, Edmond Kipngetich ran in solitary majesty back towards Slottsskogsvallen, where the start and finish are.

Kiprop was second, 40 seconds behind the winner. Kibet was third, 1.38 behind Kipngetich.

Samuel Russom, the Eritrean who competes for Hässelby, was sixth with a time that was 2.18 worse than the winner's.

Kenyan Susan Chembai won the women's category in a time of 1:10.40. Best Swedish was Hanna Lindholm from Högby, 5.37 behind Chembai.
