• Meteorology Check the weather throughout Spain

The intense heat of these last days, with values more typical of June than of the beginning of May, will give way from this Wednesday to several milder days to the point that the cold of March will return to areas of the north of the peninsula.

The prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), collected by Servimedia, indicates that temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees above normal in much of the peninsular interior until Tuesday, the last day of the current summer of the beginning of May.

On Wednesday there will be a generalized thermal decrease that will extend in large areas until Friday, when the whole country, except the Canary Islands and the peninsular southwest, will have temperatures lower than normal.

Thus, on Friday the usual cold of mid-March is expected in Vitoria (13 degrees at most), Pamplona (15) and Logroño (16).

As for the rains, they will persist mainly in Galicia, the Cantabrian communities and the Pyrenees, and will appear at some time of the week in the northeast of Catalonia, mainly.

TUESDAY

This Tuesday the strong winds will continue with very strong gusts in the Canary Islands. An Atlantic front will affect the northern third of the peninsula, where there will be clouds, rains and showers that will extend from west to east throughout the day and will affect Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees, the northeast of Catalonia and the north of the Iberian System. They could be occasionally accompanied by storms in the Catalan Pyrenees and northeastern Catalonia.

"In the rest of the northern half and the Balearic Islands, cloudy intervals and cloudiness evolution, with probability of showers in the south of the Iberian System, but a low probability. In the southern half of the peninsula, little cloudy skies or high clouds will predominate. In the Canary Islands, intervals of low clouds in the north of the islands of greater relief, "said Ricardo Torrijo, spokesman for the Aemet.

The maximum temperatures will fall in the western and northwestern thirds of the peninsula, and will rise in the Mediterranean area, the southeast and the Canary Islands. It is likely to reach 35 degrees in the Guadalquivir valley, the interior of Malaga and Valencia, and the south of Gran Canaria. Cordoba and Seville (38 degrees) will once again be the warmest capitals.

WEDNESDAY

This Wednesday will come a change of weather thanks to "the action of a flow from the north and northwest on the peninsula," according to Torrijo. Thus, it will rain weakly and dispersed in the extreme north of the peninsula, and rainfall will be more intense in the northeast of Catalonia. Showers could also appear in the Balearic Islands.

The rest of the peninsula, except in the southern third, will tend to become cloudy. The Canary Islands will have low clouds in the north of the islands of greater relief, with low probability of high haze in the east of the archipelago.

Temperatures will drop in practically the entire peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with notable decreases in areas of the eastern third of the peninsula. It will be warmer in Seville (36) and Cordoba (35), and colder in Vitoria (15).

THURSDAY

Temperatures will continue to fall on Thursday and weak frosts are expected at dawn in the Pyrenees (in this mountain range it could snow with the height between 1,400 and 1,700 meters). No capital will reach 35 degrees, with 34 in Córdoba as the epicenter of heat. Instead, Vitoria will stay at 14 degrees.

This Thursday will be cloudy in the extreme north of the peninsula, with weak but persistent rains in the north of Galicia, the Cantabrian area and the Pyrenees. In the northeast of Catalonia there will be showers and storms, and they are not ruled out also in the Balearic Islands.

Cloudiness of evolution will form in the Ebro valley and in the mountains of the eastern third of the peninsula, with low probability of scattered showers in the mountains of eastern Andalusia, the Iberian System and the interior of the Valencian Community. The sun will shine in the southern half and the Canary Islands will have intervals of clouds in the north of the islands.

FRIDAY

On Friday, rainfall will continue in the far north, which may be intense and accumulate large amounts in the eastern end of the Bay of Biscay. In the eastern third of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, instability will continue with probable showers and occasional storms.

Clouds of diurnal evolution are expected in areas of both plateaus, little cloudy skies in the rest of the southern half of the peninsula and intervals of clouds in the north of the Canary Islands.

Temperatures will drop in the peninsular interior, the Cantabrian area and the Canary Islands, and will rise slightly on the Mediterranean façade.

WEEKEND

As for the weekend, the uncertainty in the weather forecast increases. However, some rainfall in the form of showers, weak and occasional, is likely in the north of the Iberian System, the northeast of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

Temperatures will remain at normal values for the season, with relatively cool values in the northern half of the peninsula.
