Mathilda, who wishes to remain anonymous due to complexes for her appearance, got in touch with a lip augmentation therapist on Instagram. The woman pretended to be a registered nurse and offered treatments at her home.

"I was nervous, but I didn't think I should have checked on her. She said she worked as a nurse, but was on maternity leave right now," says Mathilda.

Hard lump in the lip

But the treatment went wrong and Mathilda came home with a hard lump in her upper lip that hurt. When the therapist at a return visit without warning stuck a needle in her lip to try to empty it, Mathilda suspected that something was not right.

"Then she wanted to cut her lip open to pick out the material, but then I left. I went out to my boyfriend and said 'go, get me out of here,'" she says.

Mathilda checked up on the woman and it turned out that she was not a registered nurse as she had stated.

Woman indicted

The woman is now charged with violating the law on aesthetic surgical procedures and aesthetic injection treatments, the so-called "beauty law". Her social media profiles have been removed, but according to Mathilda, there are many more similar therapists.

"It's very common among my friends to find therapists on Instagram and there are certainly those who are good too, but a lot of them are mistreated," she says.

SVT Nyheter Väst has been in contact with the accused therapist who does not want to participate in a filmed interview. She denies any wrongdoing.
