The school, which has about 300 students, has worked actively to try to create a safe environment and study environment in the classroom. They have also tried to work according to many of the ideas that researcher Fredrik Zimmerman has developed to make the school more suitable for boys.

Among other things, it is about clarity and having expectations of the students, but also to try to personalize both examinations and teaching to a greater extent.

"We believe that what we have done benefits everyone," says Magdalena Svensson, teacher in grades 4-6.

The will to change

The merit rating may vary slightly from grade to grade, but last year the average merit rating among ninth graders at Hillerstorpsskolan among boys was 228.9 and 221.1 for girls. In the county, only two more schools, Junkarmålsskolan in Tranås and Kunskapsskolan in Jönköping, were this the case.

At Hillerstorpsskolan, the average merit rating for boys since 2015 has been between 170 and 208 different years. For the past two years, the average merit rating for boys has been over 220 at the school.

"We work to ensure that all our students in school succeed, regardless of whether they are boys or girls," says principal David Holm.

The school's principal highlights the teachers' efforts to want to change as crucial.

"We have low staff turnover and a high proportion of qualified teachers, which is also important for creating good conditions for the students.
