Residents of Harrisleer Street supported the rescue of the residents until the arrival of the emergency services by placing mattresses and a container in front of the house on which the trapped people could jump.

During the fire, many onlookers gathered near the action. Videos of affected individuals have been circulated on social media. The police have opened criminal investigations. An active obstruction of rescue workers is not yet known, but is still being investigated.

Two people die in fire in Flensburg – gaffer video surfaced on the Internet

Update on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 09:15 a.m.: After the deadly fire in Flensburg, horror spreads over a gaffer video. Even the Lord Mayor condemns filming in the strongest possible terms. In the meantime, the police have also started investigations into the video.

The Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein's Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) came to the scene of the fire on Friday. She will make a statement there at 9:30 a.m., a spokesman said in the morning. "It is a terrible tragedy to which two people, including a child, have fallen victim," said the Minister of the German Press Agency.

The exact number of injured people and the nature of the injuries are also unknown. However, the fire brigade states that nine people were injured and taken to surrounding hospitals. At the time of the fire, 43 people lived in the affected apartment building. The building has been severely damaged by the fire and is now in danger of collapsing. The damage will be high, but an exact amount of damage cannot yet be named. The fire brigade is currently still on site and is keeping fire watch.
