436 days into the Ukraine war, Russia has stepped up its attacks on Kiev. More than a dozen strong explosions have taken place late Thursday in the center of the Ukrainian capital, minutes after anti-aircraft alarms were activated that warn citizens of the possibility of Russian attacks.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have shot down a drone of their own that lost control in Kiev in an operation in which there were no casualties or injuries. "The target is destroyed! It's a shame, but this is technology, and sometimes these cases occur," the Air Force said in its statement.

Meanwhile, echoes continue of Russia's accusation that the United States is behind an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin aimed at killing Vladimir Putin. Washington and Kiev denied involvement. The Russian president will chair a meeting of Russia's Security Council on Friday, whose agenda could include the Kremlin incident.

A dozen explosions shake the Ukrainian capital at dusk

More than a dozen loud explosions were heard shortly after 19.00 local time (17.00 GMT) in the center of the Ukrainian capital, minutes after anti-aircraft alarms were activated in Kiev that warn citizens of the possibility of Russian attacks.

"The enemy attacks the capital, anti-aircraft defenses are working," wrote the Center for Strategic Communication of the Ukrainian government in a note published on its Telegram channel, in which it cites as the source of the information the Military Administration of the capital region.

"Explosions and fire in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital. Probable impact of drone parts," the mayor of Kiev, Vitalii Klychko, wrote on his Telegram account, who reported a fire in a four-story building in the area. Solomyanskyi is an eminently residential area located west of the center of Kiev. In the district is also the train station of the capital.

"At the moment no one has asked for medical help," added the mayor, who said the fire caused by the attack affects an area of 50 square meters.
