Beijing, 5 May (ZXS) -- On 5 May local time, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended a meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Goa, India.
Qin Gang said that the world today is facing multiple crises and challenges, the resurgence of the Cold War, unilateral protectionism surging against the current, and hegemonism and power politics are on the rise. As an important and constructive force in international and regional affairs, the more chaotic and intertwined the international situation is, the more it is necessary to firmly carry forward the "Shanghai Spirit" and build a closer SCO community with a shared future.
Qin Gang put forward five suggestions: First, we must adhere to strategic autonomy and strengthen unity and mutual trust. We firmly support each other in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, and oppose the interference of external forces in regional affairs and the instigation of "color revolutions". Second, we should deepen security cooperation and safeguard regional peace. We will continue to crack down on the "three evils" such as the "East Turkistan", drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, support Afghanistan in building an inclusive political framework, and resolutely crack down on all forms of terrorism. Third, we should advocate openness and inclusiveness and promote linkage development. Resolutely resist any behavior that undermines the international economic and trade order and market rules, and maintain the stability and smoothness of the industrial chain and supply chain. China will take hosting the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation this year as an important opportunity to work with all parties to promote this road of opportunity and prosperity in the new decade. Fourth, we must adhere to fairness and justice and improve global governance. China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with all parties, jointly support the SCO in participating in the implementation of major initiatives such as building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and work together to promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction. Fifth, we should focus on long-term development and strengthen the building of mechanisms. The process of joining Iran and Belarus to the SCO has been completed in an orderly manner, and the SCO will be promoted to better adapt to the development and changes of the situation, enhance cohesion, enhance its ability to act and expand its influence.
Qin Gang stressed that China is willing to continuously expand cooperation with member states, work together on the road of national development and revitalization, and continue to work together towards the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The participants spoke positively of the contribution of the SCO as an important regional cooperation platform to promoting regional security and development, and agreed to further strengthen security cooperation and jointly combat terrorism, separatism, drug production and trafficking, and cybercrime. Promote cooperation in transportation, energy, finance, investment, free trade, digital economy and other fields, promote regional connectivity, deepen people-to-people exchanges and achieve common development. Strengthen environmental cooperation, jointly address climate change and promote sustainable development. All sides support Afghanistan in achieving national stability and reconstruction, and in strengthening cooperation between the SCO and the United Nations and BRICS, safeguarding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and upholding multilateralism. The Parties agree to strengthen the SCO Secretariat and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, advance the process of expanding the SCO in an orderly manner, and further enhance the international influence of the SCO.
The meeting made comprehensive preparations for the SCO summit in New Delhi, which will take place this summer. (End)
