Preliminary figures from the Swedish Tax Agency in connection with this year's tax return show that ROT deductions in Jönköping County decreased from SEK 427 million in 2021 to SEK 405 million in 2022. Thus, the trend is broken – ROT deductions have increased every year in the county since 2016.

The trend is also the same at the national level. There, ROT deductions have decreased from about SEK 12.1 billion last year to about SEK 11.8 billion for 2022.

"Many people built a lot during the pandemic, and ran out of their money then, and then we have interest rates and inflation," says Carl-Johan Lindell, carpenter at Skärstads Bygg.

RUT deductions increase

There are also fewer people who have applied for ROT deductions. About 41,300 people in the county compared to about 43,700 people in 2021.

However, RUT deductions continue to increase despite the tough economic times. In 2022, county residents made RUT deductions of 165 million compared to 152 million the year before.
