Ukrainian counteroffensive could be 'a tragedy for Russia'

The head of Russia's private military group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said Sunday that his men, who are fighting in Bakhmut (eastern Ukraine), lack ammunition and warned that a Ukrainian counteroffensive could be "a tragedy" for Russia.

"We (Wagner) only have 10-15% of the ammunition we need," Wagner's boss said in an interview with pro-Kremlin war correspondent Semyon Pegov.

Prigozhin, who blames the Russian military's top ranks for its shortcomings, said he expects a Ukrainian counteroffensive by mid-May.

The Holy See is committed to a "peace mission" for Ukraine

Pope Francis revealed that "a peace mission" for Ukraine of the Holy See is currently underway, as he said during the press conference held Sunday aboard the plane that took him to Rome after his visit to Hungary.

"In the meetings we certainly do not talk about Little Red Riding Hood," the Argentine pontiff said ironically when questioned about the conversations he had with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the metropolitan of the Russian Patriarchate, Hilarion.

"We talked about war. Everyone is interested in the path of peace and I am ready to do everything possible," the pope added of a possible Holy See mediation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
