The former tenant of the White House did everything to avoid it, but his legal action, rejected by a federal appeals court, did not prevent Mike Pence from testifying. He was heard behind closed doors by a grand jury, a citizens' panel in Washington, and nothing leaked out.

At the end of March, a judge ordered the former vice president to answer questions about his conversations with Donald Trump before the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Special prosecutor Jack Smith examines Trump's attempt to stay in power despite his presidential defeat by Joe Biden.

Mike Pence had said that history would hold his former boss responsible for the assault on the Capitol. "I had no right to annul the result of the election," he added. The grand jury can recommend an indictment of the former president, already indicted in the case of buying silence of a porn actress in 2016.

The judicial news is intensifying for Trump, also accused of rape by former journalist E. Jean Carroll, who testified against him on Wednesday at a civil trial in New York.

This did not prevent this Thursday, April 27, the first campaign meeting of the Republican presidential candidate of 2024. "We will crush Joe Biden," Donald Trump promised, as if nothing had happened.
