Jämshög's congregation has been subjected to copper theft from its buildings eight times. This has involved gutters and other objects – but also in several cases copper roofs.

Now the thieves have been on the move again. A third of the copper roof that used to be on Olofström's church is now gone – a theft that also meant that water leaked in.

"You get sad and tired. It's sad that you can't have things alone, says Jesper Mattsson, vicar of Jämshög's parish.

Is very prone to theft

Copper is particularly prone to theft when it is resold for expensive money. And for the congregation in Olofström, there are also a lot of ancillary costs after the thieves have arrived.

Copper roofs are rarely replaced with new ones – which worries the vicar of Jämshög's parish. Will the copper roofs of churches remain at all in the future?

"It's part of our cultural history and very beautiful. It has been part of the church's construction for a very long time, so it would be sad if the churches in the future will not have it. But unfortunately, things are moving in that direction.
