In Senegal, it is recorded: Idrissa Seck is no longer president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council. He is replaced by Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, chief of staff of President Macky Sall, a decision taken by decree on Monday, April 24, and which follows the declaration of candidacy of Idrissa Seck, for the presidential election scheduled for February 2024.

He himself had announced his departure, Saturday, April 22, from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (EESC) "in a process of clarificatio", according to him. Idrissa Seck is therefore replaced by a close friend of the Head of State, Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo who was notably Minister of Finance and Budget.

Another consequence of Idrissa Seck's presidential candidacy: the two ministers of his party, Rewmi, leave the government. Yankhoba Diatara was in charge of Sports and Aly Saleh Diop, Minister of Livestock. It is Prime Minister Amadou Ba who recovers their portfolios, in addition to his functions.

These decisions mark the separation between President Macky Sall and Idrissa Seck. Coming second in the 2019 presidential election, the former mayor of Thiès had joined power in November 2020 to everyone's surprise. While Macky Sall maintains the vagueness on a possible candidacy for a third term, Idrissa Seck said that he did not have the right.

But this is an amicable divorce. In his resignation letter, in fact, Idrissa Seck pays tribute to the head of state – a "precious brother", he writes, even if he now calls himself "leader of the opposition".
