According to Reuten, Politico previously wrote that the state defense corporation of the People's Republic of China NORINCO allegedly "supplied Russia with 1 thousand CQ-A 5,56 assault carbines for potential use against Ukraine."

Against this background, the MEP asked Borrell if he could confirm this information.

"If so, does Borrell believe that these arms deliveries cross the red line? If not, could he indicate what types of arms transfers would be considered to be crossing that line? If so, what restrictive and diplomatic measures against China will he propose to the EU Council?" said Reuten.

Political scientist Ivan Mezyukho, commenting on Reuten's request in an interview with RT, expressed the opinion that the very discussion of such an initiative - the imposition of sanctions against China for allegedly supplying weapons to other countries - can be called a vivid manifestation of double standards.

"What does that even mean? Can the European Union supply weapons to Ukraine, declaring that it is not a party to the conflict, and other powers cannot do the same with regard to Russia, if it suddenly decided to express a desire to do so? I want to emphasize that at the moment the public is not aware of the supply of Chinese weapons to Russia, "Mezyukho explained his position.

At the same time, he doubted that Europe today is able to restrain China's economic growth by imposing sanctions.

"Potential sanctions can only anger Beijing ... If the Europeans go for full-scale sanctions against China, they will only accelerate the destruction of the old unfair Western global political model, because before our eyes a new multipolar world is already being built, which is based on the principles of anti-colonialism," the expert concluded.

At the end of March, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Russia, during which he met with President Vladimir Putin. The negotiations between the parties ended with the signing of two joint statements.

The documents, among other things, stated that responsible dialogue is the best way for a sustainable settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.

At the same time, in their statements, Moscow and Beijing called for the cessation of all steps that contribute to the escalation of tensions in Ukraine and the prolongation of hostilities, as well as "to avoid further degradation of the crisis until it enters an uncontrolled phase."

On April 5, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said there was no evidence that China had provided weapons to Russia and threatened Beijing with consequences if the relevant supplies were implemented.
