After text robots like ChatGPT launched last year, the debate about AI and its impact on society has exploded. But what do Swedish politicians think? SVT News has asked how the eight parliamentary parties stand on AI development. Everyone except the Left Party has answered the questions.

"We are reviewing our policy in this area and will come back," they write.

Of the other parties, only SD believes that AI does not need to be regulated.

"To generally regulate technological development without seeing a concrete picture of the problem should be considered premature," the party writes.

The Liberals refer to the AI laws that are being developed in the EU.

"AI should be regulated at EU level, not at national level".

Want to invest in education

When asked how society should be prepared for a development where AI is expected to be able to perform more and more jobs, several parties mention the importance of educational investments.

"This may mean offering training in, for example, programming and other digital issues," the Moderates respond.

The Green Party thinks that the social security system may need to be reviewed and mentions a political proposal that the party has long wanted to put on the agenda:

"Issues such as universal income may be discussed more," writes Daniel Helldén (MP).

The Green Party stands out as the only party with an AI policy program. The Center Party has a digitalization program, which also includes AI, but the other parties respond that they lack one.

'Concern about developments'

The Green Party and the Center Party are also the ones who answer that they may feel worried about the development of AI.

"Not least linked to disinformation and warfare. But I hope that first and foremost it will bring fantastic new opportunities", replies Niels Paarup-Petersen (C)

Other parties respond that they are not worried, but that developments need to be monitored.

"Of course, it is important as a decision-maker to follow both the opportunities and risks that the development entails," the Social Democrats respond.
