Sao Paulo, 4 April (ZXS) -- Why can China and Pakistan inject BRICS power into the world?

——Interview with Ronny Lins, Brazilian economist and director of the Brazilian Center for China Studies

China News Agency reporter Lin Chunyin

On April 4, President Lula of the Federative Republic of Brazil led a large delegation on a state visit to China.

The first stop of this China tour was in Shanghai, and Lula was full of trips, and a visit to the BRICS New Development Bank was one of the most significant stops.

As Brazil has the largest economy in Latin America, what impact will Lula's visit to China have on China-Brazil relations? How can China and Pakistan further deepen bilateral relations? As both BRICS countries, what is the space for cooperation between China and Pakistan under the BRICS mechanism? How will BRICS contribute to world development? China and Pakistan are both developing countries, what are the resonances between the two countries in "getting rid of poverty"? China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation has achieved remarkable results, how can cultural exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations further promote the economic and trade development of the two countries? Ronny Lins, a Brazilian economist and director of the Brazilian Center for China Studies, interpreted the above issues in an exclusive interview with the "East-West Question" of China News Agency.

Ronnie Lin said frankly that cooperation between China and Brazil will benefit both countries and the world.

The following is a summary of the interview:

China News Agency: As the director of the Brazilian Center for China Studies, how do you see the impact of President Lula's visit to China on China-Brazil relations?

Ronnie Lins: President Lula's visit to China is crucial because China is not only our main trading partner, but also the engine of the world economy.

China had efficient planning to improve the well-being of the people through concerted action and to achieve full economic and social development of the country.

Brazil is a big country, but it needs a lot of help from China in many ways. It is believed that President Lula's visit to China will enhance the level of bilateral relations.

China News Agency: Under the BRICS mechanism, what space do you think Brazil and China have for cooperation? How can BRICS countries inject BRICS power into world development?

Ronnie Lins: In the new era, the key to success in a country that can stand out is innovation. Promoting technological change to increase productivity has become more important for developing countries. In order to meet the needs of the times, China and Brazil can cooperate around technological change and clearly propose specific actions to improve productivity in synergy, including product, service, process innovation, etc. Only by continuous innovation can we succeed in the new era.

At present, the BRICS countries are in a critical period of consolidating the cooperation mechanism and enhancing their international political influence. Under the new situation, the exchange of experience among BRICS countries on deepening reform, strengthening the economy, driving innovation, and creating a good development atmosphere is crucial.

To drive development, BRICS countries must adapt quickly to technological change. In the short term, the BRICS countries must take concrete action to keep them at the forefront of key technological areas. BRICS member countries should learn from each other and share technical experience.

It is worth mentioning that on March 2023, 3, the Board of Directors of the BRICS New Development Bank unanimously elected Rousseff as the bank's new president. As a former president of Brazil, Rousseff has high-level government experience and direct contact with government leaders, which helps facilitate dialogue between partners and improve the bank's performance. The bank's prospects for promoting BRICS cooperation are worth looking forward to.

China News Agency: In what areas do you think China and Pakistan should strengthen cooperation and further deepen bilateral relations?

Ronnie Lins: Brazil and China can deepen cooperation in many areas. First, deepen cooperation in the infrastructure development, communications and energy sectors, increase sales of goods and products with higher added value, share digital technologies and technical services, and deepen bilateral relations.

The second is cooperation in areas related to the external environment. For example, scaling up specific actions to protect the environment. Strengthen the construction of BRICS countries, the "Belt and Road" and other mechanisms. So that we can act with determination to help the poorest countries develop and reduce social inequalities in the world.

China News Agency: China and Pakistan are both developing countries, what are the resonances on the topic of "getting rid of poverty"?

Ronnie Lins: China has lifted more than 8 million people out of poverty, and such a huge achievement and such an important number are indisputable and unquestionable. Worldwide, China's governance model has shown great efficiency, and no other country has achieved such impressive results in recent years.

It is believed that President Lula's visit will enhance the level of relations between the two countries. In this way, Brazil will be interested in learning more about the wonderful process and experience of eradicating absolute poverty in China.

China News Agency: In recent years, China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation has achieved remarkable results, and China and Pakistan have also done a lot of work in cultural exchanges. What do you think is the complementarity and potential of cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan?

Ronnie Lins: China and Brazil have huge cultural wealth. Cultural soft power is one of the main pillars of human modernization. I believe that by strengthening cultural exchanges and mutual learning between countries, it is very conducive to the investment environment in this important field of culture.

The greater the flow of investment and the exchange of experiences, the greater the capacity to preserve heritage and historical traditions, and the greater the possibility of spreading national culture in more places.

China has an ancient culture and a long history. Brazil also has a rich cultural heritage due to its ethnic diversity. Closer cultural exchanges and more people-to-people integration between the two countries will surely lead to more frequent commercial flows and more prosperous economic and social development.
