It is difficult to get police officers to want to commute from Gävle and Uppsala to Tierp and other places in Norduppland.

– It costs and takes time to get through, says Anette Bodin, group manager and who is now working on the recruitment of candidates from Norduppland for the newly started education.

"I hope that this form of education can give parents of young children, and those who have already moved away from home and obtained loans, a greater opportunity to train as a police officer.

Ann Karyd Buvall started working as a police officer a couple of years ago, after many years in the school world.

She believes that the education can suit people who want to change.

"I can't see anything negative about it, and of course I would have had a slightly easier journey if the opportunity existed when I was studying.

Placed in sparsely populated areas

Part-time police training is only given to residents of a few local police areas in sparsely populated areas, where the police authority currently has difficulty getting new police officers. And it is clear from the outset that it is precisely here that the applicants will work when they have completed their education. The training will start in January 2024 in the police regions of Bergslaget, Middle and East.

And even before the training project has started, there is a little jealousy in the police organization.

– Yes, there are some who have called and wondered why it is not possible to take this course if you live elsewhere in the country, but I hope that this spreads and becomes nationwide, says group manager Anette Bodin.
