In Värmland, the pilot project, called part-time police training (DPU), will be carried out at four locations: Torsby, Säffle, Hagfors and Filipstad.

The training, which leads to a police degree, is two and a half years long and has a study rate of about 80 percent, in order to attract those who cannot or do not want to study full-time.

Choosing the location yourself

The idea is that the students themselves can choose which of the locations they want to work at. After completed and approved studies and subsequent aspirant training, a position is offered at the desired location.

– There is no explicit ceiling on how many we are looking for, but it is as many as possible, says Jakob Nordlund Svanlind, who has been a police inspector in Filipstad for about a decade.

And the hope is that more police officers will be visible in society.

"I hope for increased security and that we can help citizens in the way they deserve," says police inspector Jakob Nordlund Svanlind.

The application period for the programme runs until 23 April and the training starts in January 2024.

In the clip, police officers Kristina Näs and Jakob Nordlund Svanlind, who are the only two who work on external duty and are stationed in Filipstad, talk about the police shortage and the pilot project.
