According to the minister, the West is doing everything to achieve the isolation of Russia.

"In particular, they are trying to torpedo the second Russia-Africa summit planned for the end of July in St. Petersburg, to dissuade our African friends from participating in it," he said in an interview with the Argumenty i Fakty website.

Lavrov noted that fewer african countries want to "sacrifice fundamental interests" for the sake of the United States and its partners.

On March 13, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said that 37 African countries would take part in the Russia-Africa conference.

As stated by the Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Oleg Ozerov, delegations from the United States, Canada and the EU on the eve of the second Russia-Africa summit "besiege" African leaders with a demand to almost stop cooperation with Russia.
