Self-service electric scooters will gradually leave the capital after a vote of Parisians largely in favor of their ban (89%). An election with very low participation and whose result divides as much as it discourages the regular users of these devices.

This is a result that can appear in trompe-l'oeil. This Sunday, 89% of Parisians voted in favor of banning self-service electric scooters but less than three out of ten voters went to the polls. This Monday, this gradual disappearance of these motorized machines is far from unanimous in the capital. In particular, the followers of these two-wheelers who will have to adopt alternative solutions by September 1st, date of entry into force of this ban.

Ruben uses the electric scooter daily and deposits it in a large bicycle parking lot before going to the office. He takes care to park it standing, never on the floor and even wears a helmet for safety. In his view, this ban therefore represents an injustice. "All week I use it. It saves me from taking my car when gas is expensive. So, as it will be banned, it will become a little complicated. So either I'll take back my car but for ecology it's not great, or I'll buy a scooter."

"They have many rights but not many duties"

A solution also mentioned by Estelle who goes to high school every day by electric scooter. "Not only is it fun, but it goes faster than cycling. And it doesn't require us to take the bus. If we are a little careful and we do not do this under alcohol, I do not see the danger that it could represent for people, "says the girl.

An opinion that does not share Jean-Pierre, biker for 15 years, and who voted against the maintenance of these machines. "They have a lot of rights but not a lot of duties. It zigzags naturally because it's so maneuverable that it can't ride straight. It's very little visible, it sneaks everywhere, it pops up from anywhere. I have a blue fear of these scooters." This Parisian also campaigns for the streets of the capital to be better equipped to accommodate bicycles, just as dangerous, according to him, for traffic.
