There are 40-45 dentists out of 140 missing at the Public Dental Service in Västerbotten. This spring, admission notices will be sent out to those who have entered the dental program in the autumn. Last year, there were a record number of applicants for the dental program at Umeå University, and this year there is still high pressure. Over 3 first-choice applicants per training place.
– It's great fun, we get many well-motivated students here, says Malin Brundin, program director at the dental program.
Looking outside the county
At present, the dental education has 72 places, and of those who are admitted, about 25 percent come from Norrland. The number of students who get their first job after graduation in Norrland is the same figure – 25 percent.
"One thing to do can be to attract more students from the north," says Malin Brundin.
