Ms Froger, 61, supported by the PS president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, and the number 2 of the party, Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, won 11,758 votes (i.e. 60.19% of the vote) against outgoing Bénédicte Taurine, a 46-year-old rebellious candidate officially supported by the Left Union (LFI, EELV, PS and PCF) who won 7,776 (39.81% of the vote).

In the first round, Ms. Taurine came first with 31.18% of the vote while Ms. Froger took second place with 26.42% of the vote.

The first constituency of Ariège had become on the occasion of this election an issue of the war of the left between the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure, who supported the rebellious under the Nutes agreement, and the number 2 Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, defender of the dissident.
