Holy Week began this Saturday with six communities in the northeast of the peninsula on alert for snowfall, wind, rain and waves of 5 meters in the Bay of Biscay, and with Catalonia at orange level, for thicknesses of up to 20 centimeters of snow in 24 hours above 1,100 meters in the Aran Valley (Lleida).

They are also on alert although yellow for slightly lower risk than the previous one, the communities of Aragon, Cantabria, Navarra and the Basque Country, while the Valencian Community will be in a few hours, according to the latest data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) on its website.

According to the latest update of the weather of the Aemet of Holy Week, for tomorrow, coinciding with Palm Sunday, the entry of a mass of "relatively cold" air is expected that will leave rains in the Cantabrian area, high Ebro and Pyrenees, and that will be persistent in the eastern Cantabrian, western Pyrenees and in the Aran Valley.

According to forecasts, the level of snow will drop tomorrow to around 1,000 meters in the north of the peninsula, with accumulations in the Pyrenees that could be noteworthy.

The Aemet also foresees for tomorrow that temperatures, both minimum and maximum, will continue to fall in practically the entire country, except in the west of the peninsula in the case of daytime, where they will begin to recover.

In addition, there will be a predominance of northerly winds, with very strong gusts in the northeast quadrant of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, as well as trade winds in the Canary Islands, with intervals of strong intensity.

As for today's day, this Saturday in Catalonia snowfall is expected in the area of the Lleida Pyrenees, with thicknesses of 10 centimeters in 24 hours above 1,100 meters.

The Catalan community is also on alert for gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour in the littoral of Tarragona although in general the wind will blow very strong in practically the entire autonomous community.

There will also be maritime storms in Catalan provinces such as Girona especially in the Empordà, with waves of up to 3 meters, and on the coast of Tarragona.

The snowfall expected today also keeps the communities of Aragon and Navarra on alert, which are also at risk from strong wind and rain.

Up to 10 centimeters of snow may accumulate this Saturday in 24 hours above 1,100 meters in the Huesca Pyrenees and in Navarre important volumes are expected and a level that will go down to 1,000-1,100 meters.

In Aragon there will be gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in the lower Aragon (Teruel), while in the Cantabrian slope of Navarra the rains will accumulate 40 liters per square meter in 12 hours.

Cantabria and the Basque Country are also on weather alert today, while the Valencian Community will be on alert at the end of the day, due to wind, maritime storm and rain.

Waves of between 4 and 5 meters may be recorded on the Cantabrian coast, especially at the end of the day and also on the coast of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa these wave levels will be reached, where rains of up to 40 liters per square meter are also expected in 12 hours.

For the beginning of next week according to the latest update of the predictions of the Aemet, during the first half of Monday there will still be rainfall although of a weak nature, in the eastern Cantabrian, Pyrenees and Mallorca.

In addition, strong or very strong wind gusts are expected in the Pyrenees, Ebro Valley and the Balearic Islands.

Stable time

In the rest of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands the weather is expected to be stable, with rising daytime temperatures, except in the Mediterranean area where the flow from the northeast will cause them to fall.

On Tuesday and Wednesday rainfall will be likely in the north of the Canary Islands and the Strait area, and with less probability and more dispersed in the rest of the Canary Islands, southern third of the peninsula and Mediterranean area.

On Thursday and Good Friday there is a small chance that the rains will affect the north of the Canary Islands and the Mediterranean regions.
