The large company establishments that are underway in Norrbotten and Västerbotten are believed to increase the load on the transport system and not least when it comes to the railway.

The Swedish Transport Administration's task will be to describe the status of the planned measures in the transport infrastructure. Furthermore, the Authority shall report on the most relevant measures to meet the new needs and the possibility of bringing them forward.

"Our mission is to see if we can find other financiers. It is an assignment with a large spectrum, says Helena Eriksson, regional director of the Swedish Transport Administration.

"Should benefit development"

" The government sees great opportunities for northern Sweden to become an engine for green innovations and when new sustainable industries establish themselves, this part of the country can become a leader in the global climate transition, says Andreas Carlson.

He continues:

"There is therefore a need to get an update on the situation of the planned measures in the transport infrastructure that can be of benefit to development in the north and at the same time analyze whether some of the measures can be brought forward," says Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson.

The Swedish Transport Administration must report the assignment to the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure no later than 15 September 2023.
