From Trump's opponents in the Democrats, it has been relatively quiet. Republicans have been all the stronger.

Above mentioned Kevin McCarthy is attacking the person who brought the indictment against Trump, District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He has caused "irreparable damage" to the country and is trying to interfere in the upcoming presidential election, McCarthy said.

"Is un-American"

Several Republican Party leaders say it's a politically motivated indictment.

"The Democratic Party's hatred of Donald Trump knows no bounds," Ted Cruz writes.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is tipped to be Trump's challenger in the primaries, is also attacking the judiciary.

"It's un-American," he says, adding that the state of Florida will not be helpful in handing Trump over.

Pence: Outrageous

Trump himself has spoken out on his own platform Truth social.

"This is an unprecedented attack on our country. It is also an attack on our free and fair elections," he writes.

His former Vice President Mike Pence has previously spoken out critically of Trump's actions in connection with the storming of the Capitol in 2021. Now, however, he's lending his support to Trump, calling the decision to impeach Trump "outrageous."
