• Vatican Pope Francis suffers a respiratory infection and will remain hospitalized "a few days"

The Rome correspondent of the Argentine newspaper La Nación, Elisabetta Piqué, has published the first images of Pope Francis in the Gemelli hospital, where the Pontiff is admitted for a lung infection.

In the footage, hailing from the Holy See press office, the pope is seen baptizing a baby and talking to parents and nurses at the hospital. The Pope visited the hospital's oncology ward, brought gifts and baptized a newborn - Michelangelo - a few days old.

Both the photos and the video show Pope Francis looking good and with a walker.

According to Corriere della Sera, during his visit the Pope brought chocolate eggs, rosaries and copies of the book "Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea" to young patients.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed to Correire that Francis is doing better: "This morning, after breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work." After all, yesterday "the day went well, with a normal clinical course", he explained: "In the evening, Pope Francis dined, eating pizza, together with those who assist him in these days of hospitalization: with the Holy Father were present the doctors, nurses, assistants and the staff of the Gendarmerie". Bruni also confirmed that "Pope Francis is scheduled to be present in St. Peter's Square on Sunday for the celebration of Palm Sunday."
