When the restrictions were lifted during the corona pandemic, the pressure to renew one's passport was high. Now thousands of passports and national identity cards are piling up at police stations around the South region, waiting to be picked up.

"In Malmö alone, there are over 1,000 travel documents waiting to be picked up," says Calle Persson, press spokesperson at police region South.

Renewed travel documents must be collected within three months, after which they risk being cancelled.

Passes on high despite short queue times

In 2022, many people did not pick up their passports due to the long queues at the passport expeditions. Today, the waiting time is virtually non-existent, but despite this, many passports and ID cards have still not been picked up around the region.

"We advise everyone who knows they have new travel documents to go and get them. After all, it is SEK 400 per travel document that the citizen misses out on otherwise, and that is a pity, says Calle Persson.
