Russian Foreign Minister Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abdullahian during his visit to the capital Moscow on May 29.

At the press conference after the meeting, Foreign Minister Lavrov said, "We also discussed the situation in Ukraine and pointed out that NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization is involved in the conflict.

"We commend Iran's balanced position, and President Putin and President Raisi of Iran have already held three telephone talks and have plans for the future," he said, emphasizing close relations with Iran, a friendly country.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abdullahian said, "The provision of weapons to Ukraine by Europe and the United States is making the situation surrounding the ceasefire more difficult," and reined in the United States and other countries with which Iran is opposed.

On the other hand, the Western side is increasingly wary of military ties between the two countries, saying that Iran is suspected of promoting cooperation such as the provision of drones and missiles to the Russian military, which is facing a shortage of weapons due to the battle in Ukraine.
