Skånemejerier has appealed to their farmers to reduce their production because they have a surplus of milk. The situation looks similar for Norrmejerier, where it is clear that fewer and fewer people buy their milk.

"It's a consumption reduction of high percentages. Consumers choose cheaper low-cost products instead, says Göran Olofsson, Chairman of the Board at Norrmejerier.

The milk that is left over at Norrmejerier is made of cheese or other products, something that is not as profitable.

"The challenge is that we get the same amount of milk every day regardless," says Göran Olofsson.

Will more cuts

In 2022, Norrmejerier increased compensation to farmers. Today, they receive just over SEK 5 per kilo they deliver. On Tuesday, Norrmejerier's board will decide on a new cut that will be larger.

"We are making less money now and we will probably be forced to reduce the compensation to farmers several times during the spring," says Göran Olofsson.
