• Council of Ministers Sánchez elects his Secretary of the Presidency in Moncloa as the new delegate of the Government in Madrid
  • PSC Carlos Prieto, new Government delegate in Catalonia replacing Maria Eugènia Gay

The Executive will approve this Tuesday, at the ordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, the appointments of three new delegates of the Government in autonomous communities, including Francisco Martín for the Community of Madrid, Carlos Prieto in Catalonia and José Ramón Gómez Besteiro in Galicia. Once approved in this first procedure, the names with the new positions will be published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

In the case of Francisco Martín, secretary general of the Presidency since July 2021, he will assume the position of Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, as confirmed by PSOE sources, and will do so to replace Mercedes González, who will lead the Civil Guard after the resignation of María Gámez due to the judicial summons of her husband in a piece of the ERE.

Previously, Martín also worked at Moncloa as director of the Department of Planning and Monitoring of Government Activity of the Presidency of the Government, between 2020 and 2021; and director of the Technical Cabinet of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Government (2018-2020), where he participated in the device of the process for the exhumation, transfer and reburial of the remains of dictator Francisco Franco.

For his part, the until now sub-delegate of the Government in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, will relieve the current delegate Maria Eugènia Gay, at the head of the institution following his decision to attend the municipal elections of Barcelona on the list of the PSC, according to sources of the delegation to Europa Press.

Specifically, Gay agreed to be the 'number 2' of the mayor of the PSC for Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, on the list for the next municipal elections on May 28. In addition, the new delegate of the Government in Catalonia is also secretary of organization of the PSC of Barcelona and secretary of electoral action of the PSC.

Likewise, the former secretary general of the PSdeG between 2013 and 2016 José Ramón Gómez Besteiro will be appointed this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers as the new delegate of the Government in Galicia, occupying the place left by José Miñones when assuming the portfolio of the Ministry of Health.

In this way, Besteiro returns to the political front line with his appointment as delegate of the Government after seven years away from the media spotlight. The former president of the Diputación de Lugo, leader of the Galician Socialists between 2013 and 2016, decided to step aside and resign from his position in the party after being investigated by Judge Pilar de Lara in relation to several crimes, all of them filed.

In this context, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced the appointment of Héctor Gómez and José Manuel Miñones Conde as ministers of Industry and Health, respectively, after the departure of Reyes Maroto and Carolina Darias, which is produced by the "resignation" of both to attend the mayoral elections of Madrid and Las Palmas.
