18 years after Marie Johansson was murdered, the police received a DNA hit on a probable killer. In February of this year, a woman was caught in the self-scan at a store and topped.

But despite the hit, the prosecutor is now closing the preliminary investigation, as the case is time-barred because the suspected woman was only 17 years old when the murder allegedly took place.

"After a review of the investigation, I can conclude that there is nothing to support that there are other perpetrators involved in the incident other than the woman who deposited DNA traces and fingerprints at the crime scene. The crime is time-barred and therefore the preliminary investigation is now closed, writes senior prosecutor Ulrika Åberg in a press release.
