Over the past year, the costs for Swedish farmers have increased by between eight and ten billion, according to the Farmers' National Association (LRF). Now Hans Ramel hopes that the weather will provide good conditions for a good harvest.

"We buy expensive manure and expensive diesel to be able to grow and then it's important that we get it back when we harvest.

Many challenges

The road from seed purchase to finished product can be long and winding. The latest concern is the interest rate situation.

"We buy up our fertilizer in advance, which will then have to be paid for. Then it will be some time before we get paid for our harvest. Then we have to manage the liquidity. You may have to take out a loan and then the interest rate level is very high," says Hans Ramel.
